ROB MILLS

One of the most impactful statements I have ever heard concerning Gospel music was in the early 1980s, when an industry executive told me that those who share the Good News in song are charged with “telling the old, old story in a new and relevant way.” That was forty years ago, and I still hear those words when I write a song. I also hear its sentiment in the songs of friends like Rob Mills.

These days, Rob is perhaps best-known as a vocalist and guitar player with a Dove Award-winning trio called The Sound, but he actually got his start in Southern Gospel music playing bass for The Kingsboys (1987-1988) before joining The Sound—a then-Texas-based quartet—in 1990. After several years with the group, Rob moved to Michigan where he served his local church as minister of music while raising a family with wife, Angie. Then in 2017, Rob relaunched The Sound with sons Levi and Jacob. Raised in western North Carolina, Rob is the son of a Country/Bluegrass entertainer and songwriter.
