Despite knowing the importance of sleep for good health, Singaporeans remain one of the world’s worst sleepers, a recent global sleep survey by Philips found. Instead of getting recharged on the weekends, we clock just 6.7 hours of shut-eye, and 6.3 hours on weekdays. Sixty-one per cent of the respondents singled out stress as the main factor, with three in five respondents waking up at least once during the night. In the long run, this lack in snooze quality can lead to serious health issues such as obesity, heart disease and diabetes. For more restful nights, try cutting down on screen-time before bed. To beat insomnia, eat wholegrain crackers topped with protein-rich cheese, which contain tryptophan, an amino acid that induces drowsiness.…
