PETER PURVES As Morton Dill, an Alabama hayseed who briefly encounters the TARDIS crew and a Dalek on the observation deck of the Empire State Building in episode three of “The Chase” (1966), Peter Purves impressed William Hartnell. He recommended producer Verity Lambert to cast him as space pilot Steven Taylor. Purves debuted in the role just three episodes later. NICHOLAS COURTNEY On first meeting UNIT’s Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart (or Colonel, as he was then) in 1968’s “The Web Of Fear”, the Second Doctor really should have remarked on his familiar physiognomy. Nicholas Courtney (sans the Brig’s trademark tache) previously acted alongside William Hartnell, playing Space Security Service agent Bret Vyon across four episodes of 1966 epic “The Daleks’ Master Plan”.
