I love Scotland at all times of year, but I find it particularly alluring when winter casts her cool hand over the landscape: the crowds thin out, lesser-spotted wildlife emerge, and it feels as though you have a little corner of the country to yourself. It’s also a time when you can get great holiday deals, and in Seasonal Escapes (p16), we’ve chosen some of our frosted favourites, from the bonnie shores of Loch Lomond to the Isle of Skye. Of course, while some of us relish the excuse the shorter days at this time of year give us to curl up in an armchair by the fire, for some, the darkness can drag.
