As Scotland emerges from her winter slumber to find spring in full swing, as well as looking forward to summer and a long line of big anniversaries, this issue feels very much like one of reflection. First up, we reflect on the fortunes of the city of Stirling, which for a long time was fiercely fought over by the Scottish and English, and which celebrates its 900th anniversary as a Royal Burgh this year. In City of Heroes (p17), we look back at some key events that elevated historic figures to legendary status following battles in and around the city – William Wallace and Robert the Bruce, we’re looking at you – and pinpoint some of the must-see sights on a visit to the city they call ‘Edinburgh in miniature’…
