Yellen says 100,000 firms have joined a business database aimed at unmasking shell company owners

(AP)— Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen announced that 100,000 businesses have joined a new database that collects "beneficial ownership" information on firms as part of a new government effort to unmask shell company owners. Yellen said in remarks Monday that the new Treasury database that is collecting beneficial ownership information sends the message that "the United States is not a haven for dirty money." Yellen visited the Treasury's Financial Crimes Enforcement Network — known as FinCEN— in Vienna, Virginia, to discuss the launch of the database with the new year. Retailers in NY are expected to break new sales records in the year 2024

Why is Mentoring important to the African-American community?

Mentorship was essential to my rites of passage in inner-city Philadelphia. My diverse mentors in the neighborhood had a profound impact, whether our interactions were informal chats on street corners or scheduled time in structured programs. Academic mentoring is needed in the Black community more than ever. Our children are under attack and lack fundamental skills--needed (not only) for their survival but so they may thrive in the future as leaders of their own families and communities. Someone has to teach them these fundamental skills as they do not come pre-loaded as if they were batteries--included within an appliance or toy.
