The best way to better understand how top teams sail their way around a crowded racecourse seemingly with ease is to sail with them, of course. But we know that’s not always possible, so during the practice race day of the Helly Hansen Sailing World Regatta Series in St. Petersburg, we put wireless microphones on board David Jannetti’s J/70 Very Odd to listen in on how Quantum Sails’ Travis Odenbach and pro tactician Andy Horton work their magic. Following close behind in a RIB throughout the race and capturing their every move on video, we witnessed the importance of heel angle, breeze calling, traffic management and downwind winging technique.
