March is a glorious month in the vegetable garden. Thoughts turn to tidying and planning the winter plantings, but at the same time there is probably the last flush of crops like tomatoes, chillies, brinjals, and herbs such as sweet basil to harvest. Keep harvesting the last of your summer veg as that keeps them producing for longer. Take time to make pesto and tomato Dassata with vour excess crop! Fertilise long-season crops like peppers, tomatoes and brinjals one last time.Sow beetroot, cauliflower, lettuce, onions, carrots, celery, Swiss chard, spinach and turnips. If you are in the warmer parts of the country, you can still sow a last crop of runner beans, bush beans, peas, tomatoes and brinjals.
