POKE AROUND UNDER ENOUGH METAPHORICAL STONES AND YOU’LL EVENTUALLY ENCOUNTER A VERY SPECIFIC STRAND OF ROCK MUSIC: swathed in retro production values, warm fuzzed-out organ, and a heaping dose of witchy atmosphere that we like to call “folk horror.” Steeped in myth, folklore, and tales of strange skulls discovered in freshly ploughed fields, this particular heavy metal subgenre is powerful and transcendental even if it sometimes aligns itself too closely with Wicker Man whimsy. Enter Green Lung, an upstart act based out of London that claims members from the weirder, wilder outposts of Merrie Olde England. “I grew up in a tiny hamlet in the middle of nowhere, so maybe I understand that sense of the uncanny in the landscape better than others,” singer and lyricist Tom Templar tells Rue Morgue.…
