Nowhere to go, and two days to get there

When you’ve got Triumph’s Thruxton R – one of the year’s most eagerly anticipated new bikes – and 48 free hours to enjoy it, who needs a plan?

IF YOU HAD a brand-new bike and a couple of days to play with, where would you go? What would you do? It’s not a question I usually get to ask myself – not because I don’t get to play on new bikes, but because I’m usually told where the playground is and what the rules are. Not this time. Editor Colin throws me a set of keys from the other side of the desk. “Triumph Thruxton R. Ride it somewhere. Don’t come back for a couple of days. Write about it afterwards. That’s all.” I’m gone before he can change his mind. Jacket and jeans, a small rucksack with a change of clothes and a toothbrush and that’s me sorted. Time to hit the road. But where to?
