Safer roads for riders

The people responsible for more than 4000 miles of motorways and trunk roads in England have joined a partnership designed to make roads safer for riders. Highways England has teamed up with the National Police Chiefs’ Council and the Motorcycle Industry Association for the project. The plan is to make roads less hazardous (through the use of better barriers and surfaces, removal of superfluous signs, use of non-slip manhole covers, and quick diesel-spill clean-up), along with improved training and rider awareness for all road users. Tim Madgwick, deputy chief constable of North Yorkshire Police, said: “In addition to the safety aspect, encouraging greater use of motorcycles will also contribute greatly to reducing congestion and journey times.”…
