Tips for dealing with energy issues

We asked Renew members how they deal with keeping cool in heatwaves and warm in coldwaves, as well as the associated issues they have with energy use generally. Here are some of your responses

Sunny Miller Avoid heating the house by using: • Solar cooker outdoors • Haybox cooker—can be built into the kitchen (see photo) • A pressure cooker (contains heat within the device) • Induction cooker—on the back porch or outside. • Induction cooktop—save time and frustration because there are no burners to clean, and less methane, carbon dioxide, nitrogen dioxide or formaldehyde from combustion of gas Save energy by: • Riding a bike—if it’s not electric then it’s probably powered by muesli or eggs and toast • If riding to work, maybe park the bike at the station and take a train; then enjoy reading a book or chatting with other passengers—those who aren’t absorbed in their mobiles. • If train service is inconvenient or when it’s raining, drive an EV.…
