Australia leads the world in home solar uptake, with four million households benefiting from cheaper, cleaner energy from the sun. But millions more Australians remain ‘locked out’ of these benefits, including one in ten Australians living in apartments, and the one in six living in strata schemes. These locked out households need to be brought along in the clean energy transition. In 2024, the National Housing Accord increased its target to 1.2 million new homes to be built in the next five years—many of which will be apartments, rental homes, social and affordable housing, and strata-titled properties.
