Renters still missing out on energy efficiency

While owning your own home is perceived in Australia as the ‘preferred option’, the number of households renting is trending upwards, from 27% two decades ago to 31% in 2021.1 And in the corresponding period, housing costs (adjusted for inflation) have increased by 50% for private renters.2 The cost of renting, combined with the poor availability of rental properties, particularly in some locations, means that more often, those looking to rent have less choice and face increased competition.
