Nothing brightens the mood in your home more than a beautiful bouquet, and supporting British cut flowers can lessen their impact on the planet too

Eco Living Flowers are a quick fix for a room that needs a fresh finishing touch; even the simplest stems make a space feel styled. But while a grab-andgo bunch of tulips, roses or lilies may bring cheer to your kitchen table, their impact isn't only visual – commercial cut flowers are cultivated with a heavy dose of chemical pesticides, vast amounts of water and many come swathed in single-use plastic packaging, which all add up to a sizeable carbon footprint. According to Mike Berners-Lee in his book How Bad Are Bananas?, ‘out-of-season cut flowers emerged as some of the products with the largest carbon footprint per £1 generated at the tills’.
