There are so many skills to learn in being a globe maker – cartography, sphere making, goring, watercolouring, woodworking, metalworking, engineering. ‘The slow process of learning to make globes, repetition – over and over – becomes a meditation in itself. You need so much patience and persistence and a drive to overcome the many hurdles and setbacks. You can have a great day or week where everything goes to plan, and then a run where everything goes wrong.
