Family values Having grown up in the small town of Shirley in Indiana, Jama Black, owner of Black Barn Vintage, was brought up to appreciate all things old and storied, largely passed down from her maternal grandparents, who were owners of the local hardware store. Her mother also worked at the shop, housed in an old school building, so family life very much revolved around time spent here.
‘I had my very own classroom with a teacher's desk, student desks, chalkboards, maps and textbooks,’ recalls Jama. ‘I grew up loving squeaky floors and all things old. My mother and grandmother collected Depression and milk glass, and my grandfather was always finding interesting pieces in auctions.’ With this background, it's easy to understand Jama's interest in creating her own timeless interior.…
