As the new year unfolds before us, I think we are all looking for a sense of calm. But what defines a restful interior is quite subjective. For me, it’s a tidy space, dishes done and I’m soaking in the bath. The typical idea of a calm interior design may conjure up neutral colours such as beige and taupe, but it sounds like we are skating far too close to the dreaded magnolia. Magnolia paint definitely evokes a sense of stress in me that no other hue can. Traditionally, colours that induce a sense of calm include green and blue, pastel pinks and pale purple. I don’t know about you, but the image I conjure up when thinking of baby blue, mint green or lavender walls remind me of dentist…
