Basildon Park near Pangbourne in Berkshire is a romantic estate that comes alive at Christmas

With the Formal Garden the beautiful setting for Colin and Penelope’s first kiss in series three of Bridgerton, and its 18th-century interiors the home to new character Lady Tilley Arnold, Basildon Park’s charm extends throughout the year and is magnified during the festive season. The estate was bought by Francis Sykes in 1771, who demolished the old house and employed architect John Carr (who was influenced by the revival of the Classical style and Palladianism) to build the Bathstone mansion that survives today. The Sykes family owned the house until 1838, after which it went through two more families: the Morrisons (Liberal MP James Morrison first bought it, and architect designer JB Papworth completed the interiors for him) and in 1952 it was bought by Lord and Lady Iliffe.
