Creative homage

Tim and Daniel discovered that Radclyffe Hall, the writer and an important figure in LGBTQ+ history, lived at the house with her partner, Mabel Batten, a society soprano, from 1906 to 1912. ‘The connection to things that matter to us is remarkable,’ says Tim. Daniel, a keen composer, has set several of Hall’s poems from this period to music. Tim adds: ‘The area attracts creative people; the hills and views are a constant source of beauty and inspiration.’ Another creative link is William Morris, whose Cotswolds home, Kelmscott Manor, resembles the house. ‘Morris’s designs are inspired by nature and using them here creates a continuity between the house and our often-wild English garden,’ Tim explains.
