As an avid RCM&E reader I am accustomed to descriptions of beautiful clean builds, lovely pictures and immediately successful first flights. This article is not that. My workshop is a mess during a build and the P-75 model was a challenge to get flying properly, with a crash or two thrown in for good measure. What follows describes model selection, the build and how, with advice from others, it eventually became a docile flyer. My model selection criteria: ■ Never or rarely been modelled as an R/C plane■ Inherently Nugly (nice and ugly), initially unattractive■ Not well known or widely produced■ Few flowing curves or not streamlined■ Bonus if it has an unusual story to it■ Logic defying design■ Preferably flown, otherwise why build an R/C model?■ Experimentals are okay, but should have flown■ Could be a…
