Naming honours hit man and rail fan Waterman

Freightliner named 90041 Pete Waterman OBE at a surprise naming at Crewe station on September 11. The naming was a collaborative effort by the Railway Benefit Fund, Avanti West Coast and Freightliner. It was performed by the music mogul and railway enthusiast, who had not been told that the locomotive was being named after himself. Waterman, a former President of the Railway Benefit Fund, has been instrumental in raising nearly £2 million for the charity. These funds have been used to provide grants to railway workers and their families, including more than 3,000 grants specifically supporting children. Freightliner Group CEO Tim Shoveller praised Waterman for his unwavering support of the railway industry and his dedication to helping others.
