Ashley Down is back on the railway map

Ashley Down station in Bristol has opened to passengers, 60 years after the original station on the same site shut as part of the Beeching cuts. The station is the second to open in the city in the past year, following the Portway Park & Ride station. It forms part of phase two of the city’s MetroWest scheme, which once completed will extend along a previously freight-only line to North Filton and Henbury. Both of those stations are expected to open in 2026. Phase two was initially costed at £54.2 million but is expected to cost nearly £75m once completed.
