All 30 Class 379 electric multiple units (379001-030) have now been accepted by Govia Thameslink Railway for use on its Great Northern operations out of London King’s Cross to King’s Lynn and Peterborough.
GTR told RAIL: “We have accepted all 30 units, and these are now on lease. The plan is for the first train to enter service on one of the three AM and PM peak-only Letchworth Garden City-King’s Cross services that are being introduced in the December 2024 timetable as an eight-car formation - so the first service will run on Monday December 16.”
In terms of training GTR staff, little is needed as the units are essentially the same as the Class 387s that have been in use with the operator for a decade.
