Metrolink extensions head Manchester transport plan

EXPANDING Manchester’s Bee Network forms a key part of the region’s wider plan for transport, with new Metrolink routes to surrounding towns including Stockport, Rochdale and Bolton. Great Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham also wants to bring eight rail lines under Bee Network control by 2028, with full integration intended by 2030. Launching the Rapid Transit Strategy, Burnham also confirmed that he would be asking new Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves to green-light proposals as soon as possible for a new West Coast Main Line station at Golborne. It has been stuck at the approval stage for months. Another new station is planned at Cheadle. Both Stockport and Rochdale Metrolink extensions have been in the planning stages for years, with Stockport’s extension in the final stages of its business case…
