Accident investigators have made several recommendations to Northern Trains, following an incident where a passenger train started moving with several doors still open.
The incident took place on May 3 2023, as the three-car Class 323 electric multiple unit was departing from Styal station, in Cheshire.
The train had earlier been delayed at Alderley Edge by a fault which had prevented the driver from releasing the brakes and taking power, and the situation recurred two stations further along, at Styal.
Here the train stood for 25 minutes while the driver and conductor dealt with the situation in consultation with Northern’s maintenance controller (MC).
