THE first of 94 new trains for the Piccadilly line has arrived by rail at Wildenrath, Germany, for testing. Siemens Mobility is building the trains, with around half of the fleet to be constructed at the company’s new site near Goole, which Siemens said is currently in the final stages of being fitted out. Production at the site is due to begin early next year. The first train was built in Vienna and left the site at the end of July. While at the German site, the nine-car train will undergo acceleration and braking tests, noise and vibration trials as well as testing of all the equipment on board the train as well as all the equipment with which it will interface.
