West Coast Railways provided two snowplough-fitted Class 37/5s to Network Rail to perform snow patrols, due to adverse weather being expected as a result of Storm Bert.
On November 15, 37668 and 37685 Loch Arkaig ran light from Carnforth to Carlisle.
Two days later, they ran light to York to collect two independent snowploughs which they then worked as the 1352 York Yard-Carlisle High Wapping Sidings.
The following day, these were taken to Perth.
On November 19, 37668 ran light to Inverness to be on standby for snow duties, followed by 37685 the next day.
Their stationing at the Highlands capital meant that on November 21, 37668 was able to work the 0935 Inverness-Kyle of Lochalsh and return.
The locomotives stayed in Inverness for a few days, with 37668 used…
