Two tunnel boring machines (TBMs) will be lowered into an underground chamber at Old Oak Common next year, while HS2 Ltd awaits permission to extend the route into central London.
It follows Secretary of State for Transport Mark Harper’s announcement in March that work between OOC and London Euston would be paused for two years, after costs for the new terminus swelled from £2.6 billion to £4.8bn.
Huw Edwards, HS2 Ltd’s project client for OOC, told the Press Association on August 10 that his team would do nothing to “preclude construction of the railway to the destination that we all want, which is Euston”.
