The first mile of HS2’s twin-bore Northolt Tunnel into London has been completed, with almost 6,000 concrete segments now in position.
Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) Sushila has been heading south since last November, while Caroline is heading in the opposite direction.
The target date for completing the 8.4-mile structure is 2025. The spoil will be used to create a wildlife habitat and for landscaping.
Early next year, two other TBMs will start out from the Victoria Road crossover box, close to Old Oak Common station. They will meet at Greenpark Way (in Greenford) to create the route for the initial opening of HS2 into London.
Meanwhile, TBMs Florence and Cecilia have passed the fourth of five ventilation and emergency access shafts, three-quarters of the way through the ten-mile Chiltern Tunnel.…
