New “innovative approaches” to prevent platform/train accidents are being sought by Transport for London.
It follows several ‘trap and drag’ accidents where passengers’ clothing has been caught in the closing doors of a train, which has then moved off.
In its formal reports, the Rail Accident Investigation Branch has told TfL to investigate options to minimise the risks at what it calls the ‘Platform Train Interface’ (PTI).
TfL says it is looking for innovative solutions to “reduce the risk of falls, accidents on the track, and falls or accidents between the platform and train, as well as how we might reduce potential consequences of such incidents in the event they do occur”.
