2,500 Ukrainian rail workers protected by UK rail donations

UK rail companies have directly funded personal protection equipment for more than 2,500 Ukrainian railway workers since Rail Partners’ Kit for Kyiv campaign was launched at Rail Live in June. Donors include Arriva, DB Cargo, FirstGroup and TransportUK. Every £20 raised ensures that one frontline rail worker can be supplied with an armoured protective vest and helmet. Since the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022, its railway system has played a key role in evacuating civilians from the east of the country, provided a vital lifeline for grain exports following the closure of the Black Sea ports, moved thousands of troops to and from frontline areas, and evacuated injured personnel.
