Queensland Quilters’ Quilt Show

Quilts hanging in the show exhibited the talents of individual members, affiliated groups and special-interest groups. The Our Challenge, Modern Challenge and State of the Art quilts were hung and the Best of Australia quilts were showcased along with other special displays. We share some of the winning quilts here. Best of Show Best Hand Quilting Royal Garland, 222cm x 222cm (86½in x 86½in), Joanne Johnson Artist’s statement: “I designed the centre of Royal Garland within a 60cm circle. The layout of the next border of appliquèd diamonds gives the illusion of another circle floating beneath the centre block. Needleturn appliquè and a small amount of hand piecing were the techniques used. Fabrics are Kaffe Fassett. Hand quilted with Gutermann hand quilting thread.” Best Traditional Quilt Professional Pieced Large — Third Libby Morgan, 165cm x 190cm (65in x 75in), Christine Cohrs Artist’s statement: “A fussy cut, English paper pieced quilt inspiration from Libby Morgan quilt and other vintage hexagon quilts.
