Mulberry Fling

Harvested in autumn in Australia, the mulberry fruit is deep and gorgeous in colour (and delicious to eat!). This quilt is inspired by mulberry-toned fabrics and the swirling appliqué design gives movement to the overall design.

Finished quilt size: 204cm (80½in) square Materials • 2.9m (3¼yd) cream print fabric (appliqué background, sashing and Border 1)• 50cm (⅝yd) each of two mulberry print fabrics (appliqué)• 1.8m (2yd) mulberry print fabric #3 (Border 3 and binding)• 1m (1⅛yd) light green print fabric (appliqué, sashing and Border 2)• 30cm (⅜yd) dark green print fabric (sashing)• 70cm (¾yd) plum print fabric (edging units and sashing)• 50cm (⅝yd) pink tone-on-tone print fabric (edging units and sashing)• 30cm (⅜yd) pink print fabric (sashing)• 2.3m (2⅝yd) extra-wide (275cm/108in) backing fabric• Batting at least 230cm (90in) square• Fusible web• Stranded embroidery floss to match appliqué fabrics• Rotary cutter, ruler and mat• Sewing machine with ¼in foot• General sewing supplies Cutting From the cream print fabric, cut: • five strips, 15in x width of fabric.…
