Eminently readable memoir from Bush, Wakeman and Camel collaborator. The pre-fame chapters of music memoirs can be dull; not so with Edinburgh-born singer and bassist, David Paton. We hear of his dad’s Ouija board use and early encounters with UK comedy giants Hattie Jacques and John Le Mesurier, but his account of his brief tenure in The Bay City Rollers understandably avoids rumination upon one of pop’s darkest stories. Magic and January, his 70s singles and chart smashes with Pilot, brought Paton fame and saw him head-hunted, but the main draw for Prog readers will likely be the sections recalling his esteemed session work with everyone from Rick Wakeman and Kate Bush to Camel - as well as Paton’s long, fruitful stint as a key member of The Alan Parsons…
