US horror director dishes out revamped instrumentals. When he’s not whipping up new music for his ongoing Lost Themes series, John Carpenter can usually be found revisiting past triumphs. The first of his Anthology collections saw him re-recording classic title scores from The Fog, Halloween, Assault On Precinct 13 and so on. This second Anthology volume follows the same pattern, though much of its contents are less familiar. Again joined by his regular collaborators (son Cody and godson Daniel Davies, offspring of The Kinks’ Dave), these pieces are themes within themes, moments of suspense and brooding disquiet from the golden years of Carpenter’s movie catalogue. 69th St Bridge, from Escape From New York, is big-sounding 80s electronica, finding bold companions in the terse, rockier The Alley (War) from Big Trouble…
