EppyFest is 10 years old and, having moved around both in location and format over the last decade, it seems to have now settled on a winning formula. In fact, amiable host and Epileptic Gibbon podcaster Ian Fairholm has pushed the boat out this year in curating a genuinely eclectic six-band line-up for this most unusual of events, taking place in an appropriately quirky venue – Smokey Joe’s is an American-style diner and arts centre, housed in an old printing works.
Opening the show are Amsterdam-based quartet Jerboah. While their material is largely song-based, the instrumentation – guitar, drums, recorder and EWI (electronic wind instrument) – is never less than enthralling. Their set includes a cover of Bronski Beat’s Smalltown Boy reimagined as an epic…
