It’s a humid summer’s evening in London, moisture is thick in the air as the sun sears onto the cobblestones, but something cold awaits in the dark upstairs hollow of Camden’s Black Heart. Tonight marks Darkher’s first show in the city in six years, and it’s unsurprisingly sold out, as the venue bundles with perspiring bodies, relishing the air-conditioning and the icy expanse of Yorkshirewoman Jayn H Wissenberg’s supply of dark progressive folk. This year has seen Darkher mostly play at ‘acoustic gatherings by candlelight’ across the country in chapels and old pubs, but tonight, she plays with a full band, filling out her melodies with crushing weight.
