Pyramid: Super Deluxe Box Set COOKING VINYL Hit-and-miss third album handsomely repackaged. If the Alan Parsons Project had an imperial phase, this 1978 LP was surely slap-bang in the middle of it. And yet it’s ended up arguably the least-loved of their albums from that classic period. This expanded box set treatment shows that it has plenty going for it, though. After we are eased into the piece with the descending chord pattern and wistful synth washes of Voyager, What Goes Up… taps into the eternal sense of wonder that strikes so many who visit the Pyramids, as David Paton voices Eric Woolfson’s inquiries, such as: ‘If all things must fall, why build a miracle at all?’ Stirring stuff, even if there’s a sense that it could have built from…
