Finnish dark prog outfit Swallow The Sun are stepping into the light with their ninth album, Shining, which is out on October 18 through Century Media. Three years after the bleakness of Moonflowers, guitarist Juha Raivio says repeating that process “would kill me”, and so they’ve tapped up pop-orientated producer Dan Lancaster (Bring Me The Horizon, Muse, Blink 182) for a record that offers something that is “heavy, beautiful and refreshing”. “Moonflowers was really dark, and it was a very difficult album to make,” says vocalist Mikko Kotamäki. “It made sense to step out of that dark place. We are different people now; this album is more uplifting, but it still has plenty of Finnish melancholia.” Bassist Matti Honkonen has called the record “the Black Album of death doom metal”, and…
