SOLO ALBUM FROM BLACK MIDI’S GEORDIE GREEP

Multiple musicians over two continents have been utilsed.

With alt proggers Black Midi taking an “indefinite hiatus”, frontman Geordie Greep has spoken of the logistical challenges he faced recording The New Sound, his debut solo album, which is out on October 4 on Rough Trade Records. “Half of the tracks were done in Brazil, with local musicians pulled together at the last minute,” says Greep. “They’d never heard anything I’d done before, they were just interested in the demos I’d made. The tracking was all done in one, maybe two days. Then we did the overdubs later, in London.” Greep adds that The New Sound is very much an active experience aimed at prompting a response. “All my favourite music is about the listener coming to terms with what is going on.
