Meet the Israeli prog outfit aiming to take their music from Tel Aviv to the rest of the world.

Based in and around Tel Aviv, the four members of Israeli prog outfit Mental Fracture started playing together in high school. But it wasn’t until a few years ago that they got serious, and this has resulted in their debut album Disaccord, which weaves together well-crafted prog rock and metal to highly promising effect. Drummer Hai Maller says that making the self-produced/-released record was akin to “building a complex and creative puzzle. It’s like our baby, we’re very proud of it.” Maller’s joined by keyboardist and vocalist Ori Mazuz, bassist Philip Tsukerman and guitarist Yogev Shpilman. Together they’ve attracted comparisons to Haken and Porcupine Tree, but feel that they lay somewhere towards the middle of prog’s wide heaviness spectrum.
