An enjoyable yet formulaic introduction from the prog metal supergroup. Comprising current and former members of Haken, The Neal Morse Band, Shining and others, Temic’s debut album arrives with high expectations. Although it scratches itch, it does little to establish the quartet as an eclectic and individualistic new project. It’s not entirely without interesting moments. The soaring harmonies and Losses, Mothallah and Skeletons are impressive, but more often, Terror derivative hodgepodge of familiar sounds and ideas. Through The Sands Of Time and Acts Of Violence evoke the bombastic, melodramatic songwriting and vocal style of Threshold and Evergrey, much like the complex instrumentation of Friendly and Falling Away hew too closely to the timbres and techniques that Dream Theater and Symphony X have been using for decades.
