Alt-proggers keep it accessible without blunting their edges.
With their third album, French/Irish four-piece Molybaron continue to straddle the line between alt-rock anthemics and prog tinted experimentation. While not every track delivers everything a prog fan looks for in music, there is plenty for teeth to be sunk into.
What each song does offer, without fail, is oodles of energy and a ‘play it simple, stupid’ approach to vocal hooks. On the bass-driven, danceable Dead On Arrival, the track’s title is uttered 14 times in just over three minutes as the quartet try – successfully – to get into their listener’s heads. Yet there are enough dynamic shifts, subtle string undercurrents and spinning riffs to keep things interesting.
