Soft-focused quartet’s wistful sixth album.
While it’s always impressive to see progressive rock that, well, progresses, there’s also something to be said for fine-tuning a signature sound. That seems to be the approach of this Antwerp-centred four-piece, who have borne the influence of Alan Parsons Project, Asia and other AOR-leaning art-rock pioneers on their previous five albums.
And it hits the melodic sweet spot again on the title track of 8mm, which creates a wonderfully nostalgic feel enhanced by the sound of the titular camera reel whirring in the background. If 2020’s Black Rain had a sense of foreboding running through it, 8mm sounds more optimistic.
