“I’d long been aware of Rocket Recordings – not least because they release Teeth Of The Sea, whose previous band I’d released on a label I briefly ran. Being a fan of outlandish psychedelia I bought World Music by Goat when it came out in 2012. I became a bit obsessed with their track Golden Dawn and included it on a playlist I made while researching and writing The Gallows Pole novel. I thought the TV series should be head-bending, colourful and push the limits of how esoteric a BBC drama could be, so I passed the playlist on to [director] Shane Meadows who added tracks to it, in order to set the mood and tone for the production.
