A little over a year ago, a publicist friend gifted me the very cool, hardbound copy of Emerson, Lake & Palmer’s Singles box set. Sure, I was to review this new collection, but it was wonderful acquiring such a collectible, something I probably would never have gotten around to grabbing for myself. Yes, I try to be a completist when it comes to my favourite band of all time, but these box sets and collections are getting pricey, and, frankly, I’m not the biggest fan of what I generally feel are often contrived and affected singles. When it comes to bands like my beloved ELP, Genesis (pre–Phil Collins’ hit-making run), Pink Floyd, Yes and most other proggy outfits, our favourite artists don’t garner too many singles releases.
