With the summer fast becoming a distant memory thanks to earlier sunsets and a palpable drop in temperature, the return of ethereal trio Esben And The Witch couldn’t be better timed. While they continue to defy easy categorisation, their intoxicating blend of post-punk, post-rock, goth, psychedelia and prog is shrouded in a dark mystery that’s entirely in keeping with the lengthening shadows outside and the increasingly gentrified industrial environs that cast them. And the plumes of smoke that are emitted periodically from beneath the stage to engulf the largely black-clad audience sure help, too.
