Icelanders’ most cryptic cascades return two decades on. Sometimes now referred to by band members as ‘The Brackets Album’ or ‘The Untitled Album’, the record named by means of parentheses is every journalist’s nightmare to type. What reviewers did love about the third Sigur Rós album, upon its 2002 release, was the record itself, with one American publication claiming it had “the depth, resonance and humanity of a Brueghel landscape”. Its 20th anniversary is marked by a Ted Janson remaster and the addition of five demo versions and B-sides. These rough workings aren’t massively different to those which made the cut: it’d be a hardcore fan who found any radical twists other than a track being played slightly shorter or longer.
