Immaculate Norse post-prog with a rebellious streak. Four years on from their debut album, False Memory Archive, this Norwegian trio have drifted ever further from their origins as a folk-rock outfit. The Quiet Rebellion Of Compromise is the consummate modern prog album: immaculately produced, artfully diverse and underpinned by a rumbling anxiety. Oak slip between subgenres, often within the same song. Opener Highest Tower, Deepest Well takes in languid post-rock, King Crimson-style skronk and pastoral psych, but somehow knits them into a coherent whole. Similarly, Quiet Rebellion begins as a gentle, folky affair, before being momentarily consumed by buzzing electronics and a claustrophobic, percussive pulse.
